We just heard from our dear friend, Jorge Porratta, who has started a Global Chant circle in Portland, OR. He shared this link to the music video for "I Won't Let You Down," which shows a group of umbrella-wielding dancers in Repose.
Here is what Jorge wrote about a recent Repose experience: "We did Repose after chanting today for the first time and it was pretty powerful. Everyone was energized and almost felt that they didn't want to break the circle but then we even went into drumming and dancing after closing. I've been getting into the train of Repose for the last couple days and I could see an opening happening. Big hugs and much love. Can't wait to read the book and to see u in Dec to celebrate! "
Another dear friend, Mariska LaCava, observed that the function of Repose is to remember. That is exactly how we feel. When we relax our mental activity and put ourselves in an open, receptive state of mind, we connect with something deep within ourselves that is peaceful, beautiful, and perfect. Repose lets us transcend the hassles, stressors and distractors of our daily lives so that we can tap into the pure experience of what we are at our core. Remembering who we are, we are not fazed by the chaos that may be unfolding around us. We know there are health benefits of Repose, but to us that's the icing on the cake. The experience of bliss that comes from simply lying down, becoming receptive, and allowing ourselves to remember who and what we are is the exciting part. Of course, there are going to be health benefits! Take away stress, and you take away inflammation, which causes chronic pain, hypertension, obesity, coronary heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes. You also shift your perspective in ways that promote optimism, resilience, interest, life satisfaction, healthier relationships, and an overall sense of well-being (all of which we've shown in the lab, by the way).
Repose is simple yet powerful. Try it for yourself. As the song says, it "won't let you down!"
